Fe 16 Hurling Championship

Blarney Fe 16 Hurlers had a great victory in the Mid Cork Hurling Championship in Blarney last night the13th of August. The team put on a great performance in front of a large home crowd and came out clear winners after an hour of good hurling.

Blarney 1-22

Inniscarra 3-08

Congratulations Blarney Under 12 Hurlers

Blarney Fe 12 Hurlers where crowned league champions after a fantastic victory over Aghabullogue  on the 7th of August with a scoreline of 4-11 to 2-02. It was a brilliant display by the lads and hopefully this will give them the confinence they need to beat Inniscarra when they go head to head in the Mid Cork Championship on the 23rd of August. Best of Luck to the lads.

Fe 14 Premier County Hurling Final Replay

Blarneys grit and determination got them a second crack at the whip in the county under 14 hurling championship. They started by playing into a stiff breeze but this didn’t stop them from opening the scoring after good work by blarneys midfield and a fine effort from Dylan Lenehan after 3 minutes. Carbery replied with a point and where rewarded a penalty on the ninth minute which they duly slotted away. It was all Carbery for the next 15 minutes as they tacked on 4 unanswered points before Blarney added one of their own before the break through a fine long range effort by Peter Philpot. The half time score was then 1-05 to 0-03.

Blarney burst out of the blocks in the second half and hammered in a goal after 2 minutes and things seemed to be looking up for the Blarney men, however, Carbery had other ideas and answered with 2 quick points. A Ray Murphy free and another point from play where all that Blarney could muster in the second half as Carbery kicked on and closed the game out.

The Blarney team battled extremely hard right till the last minute and should be extremely proud of their performances not only in the final but throughout the year as they took on and beat far bigger teams. They provided us with great entertainment for the summer and will be a force to be reckoned with when they look to capitalise on the hard work done at under 15 level.

Blarney 1-05

Carbery 1-13

Stephan Nolan Tournament.

U14 Divisional Tournament.

Muskerry v Duhallow

Muskerry dominated this game from start to finish but it was the manner with which they went about their task that thrilled their coaches. Muskerry settled into this game quickly they really looked impressive as 4 of their forwards scored and both midfielders and centre back impressive. They played a fast direct style of hurling and were well organised. This was a very good display in the first game of the Tournament.

Muskerry v Seandun

This was a very entertaining game the intensity form the first game rose significantly this was a tough well contested game between to very skilled teams. Muskerry forwards got on top early and the backs and midfield really closed down any threat that Sheandun showed. Muskerry ran out winners in the end due to the clinical finishing of their forwards. Muskerry had passed another test in their quest for a divisional title.

Muskerry v Imokilly

This was a meeting of the two undefeated teams, both teams possessed match winners it was who performed on the day would win this last game. This was a top class game with great skill, work rate and excitement; both teams were very well prepared and well coached. Muskerry had the better first half and led by 2 points, but Imokilly got off to a flier in the second half and took a 4 point lead. This is when we really found out how good Muskerry were they did not panic and responded to the challenge they scored the next 8 points with out reply against a very good Imokilly defence. The poise and skill they showed under pressure was a credit to all the players and coaches, Muskerry deserved their win it was a great experience for all the players, coaches and spectators.

Best for Muskerry were Sean Burke (Grenagh) Thomas O Connor (Inniscarra) Liam Murphy (Cloughduv) John Mullins (Eire Og) Dylan Lenihan, Raymond Murphy, Patrick Daly, Darragh Kelly,

Sean McSweeney (Blarney)

Blarney had 9 players in the final panel who gave great commitment to training, and matches,

Vincent O Brien, Darragh McPolin, Stephen Sheedy, Peter Philpott, Sean McSweeney, Patrick Daly, Raymond Murphy, Dylan Lenilan, Darragh Kelly.  Thanks also to John Darby Muskerry team coach and selector, to Paul Lenihan on tournament day

and Ray Murphy, Blarney selector on panel.

Under 12 Mid-Cork Football Final

Sunday 11/05/2008 in Ovens.

Blarney   v   Inniscarra

On a Sunday night the supporters of both Blarney and Inniscarra were served up a football final that will be remembered for years to come. Both teams played sweet flowing football that flowed from end to end and kept all that attended this great football contest between two very committed and well coached teams on the edge of their seats.

Inniscarra started the better of the two teams and dominated the first the 20 minutes. They played great football and kept Blarney under pressure. Blarney struggled to get their passing game going and the constant Inniscarra pressure  helped  them surge to a 9 point lead after 20 minutes. Blarney slowly came to terms with the pace of the game and started to get their own game going, and finally scored a point from a free. Inniscarra attacked again and were denied a goal from a great save from Blarney goalkeeper Sean Crowley. This spurred Blarney into action and they scored a goal just before the end of the half to leave the score 0-9 to  1-1  at half-time.

Blarney were lucky to be in the game after the first half performance of Inniscarra but they came out in the second half and took the game to Inniscarra. They dominated proceedings from the start and quickly converted their chances. They reeled in the Inniscarra lead and after 15 minutes of the second half were level. Inniscarra however retook the lead and both teams traded points until Blarney scored another goal. From then on Blarney dominated and never let Inniscarra settle again. Blarney were now playing great passing team football and they made their possession tell on the score board. Inniscarra were awarded a penalty which was missed and that indeed was their last chance in this highly entertaining encounter.

Blarney were worthy winners on  a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-10.

Vincent O'Brien played a captain's role in defence, Mark Coleman was brilliant at half-back, Luke Conroy's fielding and distribution were excellent and Ray Murphy, Dara Sheen, Kevin Cremin, Dylan Lenihan and Conor Mc Carthy provided the scoring power up front. This performance was about a team performance  as every player contributed to  this masterful performance. All the players on both sides were a credit to the sport.

                                                                                                     Paul Lenihan
