Under 10 Aghada Hurling League Wednesday 04/06/2008 in Caherlag
Blarney made it two wins out of two in the Aghada League in Caherlag. The first half was nip and tuck with Conor McCarthy opening the scoring with a great point following a lovely pass from Barry Dennehy. Conor McCarthy pointed a couple of 35’s after both Alex Moynihan and Peter O’Regan had great shots deflected out over the end line.During this half James Dineen had a number of good saves especially from long distance shots. Alan McEvoy covered well in front of the keeper, while Conor Power kept ball and man out of the goal mouth on a number of occasions. Patrick Crowley had a lovely point to end the scoring for the half. Blarney led by a point at the interval. Blarney rotated the goalkeeper in the second half (as has been the practice in the last no. of games) to give fresh legs to the attack in the absence of subs. Erins Own began the half brightly and for the first ten minutes the Blarney goal mouth was a welter of excitement with Conor Murphy now operating between the posts making some great saves and goal line clearances. Luke Madden threw himself in front of a bullet like shot and David Sheahan bravely tackled Erins Own players from his own goal line to the half way line. Eoin Hyland drove some great clearances into the forwards and looked very comfortable as a half back. Oscar Twomey and Conor McCarthy extended the Blarney lead with two lovely points. James Dinnen scored a great goal after Dylan O’Riordan had blocked down an Erins Own player. Conor McCarthy now playing between the full and half back lines cleared some great ball. Emmet Mackin ended the Blarney scoring with a great goal, after Mark Linehan sent a ball across the square. Final score was Blarney/Rathpeacon 2-6 Erin's Own 0-3.
Under 10 Aghada Hurling League Saturday 16/05/2008 in Rathpeacon Blarney/Rathpeacon v Tracton Blarney got their Aghada League campaign off to a great start in Rathpeacon on Friday night. Blarney started well and within the first five minutes Oscar Twomey who finished the game with 3-2 had scored two goals. Emmet Mackin and Mark linehan were also unlucky for scores. David Sheehan helped by Barry Dennehy and Conor Power ensured no ball troubled the Blarney goal.Patrick Crowley who threatened the Tracton goal on a number of occasions, scored a goal from the 30 yard line.Conor McCarthy finished the scoring for the half with a fine point, after Alex Moynihan had won a nice ball out near the half way line. Half time score was Blarney/Rathpeacon 3-2 to Tracton's 0-0.In the second half Blarney had a completely changed team, with Blarney players swapping between backs and forwards in an effort to get all players into the game. James Dineen played very well when moved to midfield in the second half. Eoin Hyland took over between the posts. During this half Oscar continued on his scoring ways with a goal and a nice point following a fine pass from Luke O’Connor. Kieran Maloney cleared some great ball, with the ever dependable Alan McEvoy controlling the edge of his own square in the second half. Conor Murphy finished the scoring with a fisted point after a long ball from Conor McCarthy bounced in the square. Blarney made the best of a very difficult surface caused by high grass. A number of Blarney players struggled as ground hurling was near impossible. Best for Blarney were Conor McCarthy and Patrick Crowley, while special mention must go to Oscar Twomey who had a fantastic game at full forward. Blarney/Rathpeacon were worthy winners on a scoreline of 4-4 to 1-0!
Under 12 Mid-Cork Football Final Sunday 11/05/2008 in Ovens. Blarney v Inniscarra On a Sunday night the supporters of both Blarney and Inniscarra were served up a football final that will be remembered for years to come. Both teams played sweet flowing football that flowed from end to end and kept all that attended this great football contest between two very committed and well coached teams on the edge of their seats. Inniscarra started the better of the two teams and dominated the first the 20 minutes. They played great football and kept Blarney under pressure. Blarney struggled to get their passing game going and the constant Inniscarra pressure helped them surge to a 9 point lead after 20 minutes. Blarney slowly came to terms with the pace of the game and started to get their own game going, and finally scored a point from a free. Inniscarra attacked again and were denied a goal from a great save from Blarney goalkeeper Sean Crowley. This spurred Blarney into action and they scored a goal just before the end of the half to leave the score 0-9 to 1-1 at half-time. Blarney were lucky to be in the game after the first half performance of Inniscarra but they came out in the second half and took the game to Inniscarra. They dominated proceedings from the start and quickly converted their chances. They reeled in the Inniscarra lead and after 15 minutes of the second half were level. Inniscarra however retook the lead and both teams traded points until Blarney scored another goal. From then on Blarney dominated and never let Inniscarra settle again. Blarney were now playing great passing team football and they made their possession tell on the score board. Inniscarra were awarded a penalty which was missed and that indeed was their last chance in this highly entertaining encounter. Blarney were worthy winners on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-10. Vincent O'Brien played a captain's role in defence, Mark Coleman was brilliant at half-back, Luke Conroy's fielding and distribution were excellent and Ray Murphy, Dara Sheen, Kevin Cremin, Dylan Lenihan and Conor Mc Carthy provided the scoring power up front. This performance was about a team performance as every player contributed to this masterful performance. All the players on both sides were a credit to the sport. Paul Lenihan
